The process for Scouts looking to advance from Life Scout to the honor of Eagle Scout is oftentimes one of the more challenging parts of their Scouting career. To assist in this process, each Scout should select an Eagle Coach/Mentor (from our list of trained Assistant Scoutmasters) who will guide them through their leadership project, merit badge completion, and other parts of the Eagle Scout requirements. The coaches should be the first call for Scouts working on their Eagle rank.

We have included a number of links and documents below that are the building blocks in the Life to Eagle process. Your Eagle coach can help in directing you to the correct document for each step.

Eagle Scout Information Links:

  • Troop 542 Life to Eagle Guidebook: This document outlines the overall process and is used for all requirements for Eagle Scout. Be sure to refer back to this document as working with your coach.
  • Eagle Scout Service Project Workbook (external link): Fillable PDF updated regularly from the national council. Be sure to use the contact page information below when filling out the workbook.
  • Workbook Contact Information Page: This is the workbook contact page with Troop, District, and Council Information filled in. You should copy this info to your own fillable PDF workbook.
  • Eagle Scout Application: Scouts should use the application available directly in Scoutbook. This generated form automatically fills in important dates and information (such as merit badges earned) and eliminates potential errors when entering this data to your application. Your Eagle Coach can help guide you.
  • Eagle Scout Reference Letters Policy: This document is the Cradle of Liberty Council Policy for obtaining Eagle Scout letters of reference. It includes a letter you should give to the people you request letters from, and a sample of the stamped addressed envelope you should give to them. You’ll need 5 or 6 such letters.
  • Eagle Scout Applicant Statement Of Ambitions And Life Purpose Positions, Honors, And Leadership: This document is provided by Cradle of Liberty Council for you to provide your statement of life’s purpose as required in Requirement 7 for the Eagle rank.
  • Cradle of Liberty Council Life to Eagle Information: This page includes information published by the Council on obtaining the Eagle rank. Not all of this information will pertain to Troop 542 Scouts.
