Grab your paddles and bring your A game! From Friday, June 6, to Sunday, June 8, 2025, Troop 542 camped at French Creek State Park in Elverson, PA, for its June kayaking trip. Scouts tested their aim on the disc golf course, explored Marsh Creek Lake in two-man kayaks, and battled it out in the annual volleyball tournament. With warm weather, great food, and plenty of laughter around the campfire, the trip had something for everyone to enjoy.
On Saturday morning, Scouts enjoyed breakfast before getting ready for a game of disc golf. First-year Scouts worked on their rank advancements while the rest of the Troop hit the course. The game was a hit, with many Scouts saying it was one of the highlights of the weekend. After lunch, the Troop headed to Marsh Creek Lake for an afternoon of kayaking. Scouts paired up in two-man kayaks and spent time paddling across the water. The weather was perfect, and many Scouts said kayaking was their favorite part of the trip. Everyone returned to camp at 4 p.m. for the Troop’s annual volleyball tournament. In a close match, the Eagle Patrol defeated the Pinetree Patrol to take top honors. Afterward, everyone enjoyed a steak dinner prepared by the adults, then gathered for the evening campfire, featuring skits, songs, and live music by the Allemang family.
On Sunday morning, Scouts ate a quick breakfast and began packing gear. Before leaving, the Troop attended an Interfaith service led by the new Troop Chaplain Aide and celebrated the outgoing Chaplain Aide’s last camping trip before he ages out of Scouting. After a weekend of fun, the Scouts finished packing and headed home.
