Troop 542 Embraces the Rapids at Whitewater Challengers

Grab those paddles and brace yourselves for adventure! On June 6, 2026, Troop 542 departed from Supplee early in the morning to embark on a trip centered on whitewater rafting. The scouts arrived at Whitewater Challengers and after a brief safety talk, they were on their way to the river.

After scouts got the hang of rafting, the troop arrived at the river’s first rapids. The rapids were one of the best parts of the river. The water from the waves would splash people in all directions. It was thrilling, wet, and incredibly fun. The warm weather and the cool river water complemented each other perfectly.

Not only did the river splash scouts, but other scouts did too! The rafting company provided “splashing buckets” for scouts to splash each other with water. This got everyone into a competitive, exhilarating spirit even when the water was calm. Everyone was sure to get splashed during the 4-hour long trip, even if they were already soaking wet.

In the blink of an eye, the time on the river ended. After everyone got dry and settled down in camp, a thunderstorm rolled in. But this didn’t stop the adults from making a delicious steak dinner. All the scouts ate a lot that evening before they had some time to unwind, play yard games, and chat with friends before the campfire.

The evening campfire was, like every trip, a highlight of the weekend. Scouts prepared many funny skits and sang camp songs. It was a wonderful time of bonding and togetherness.

The next morning, an interfaith service was held focusing on our country in the spirit of America’s 250th birthday coming up. After that, the scouts ate another delicious meal prepared by the adults, featuring pancakes, sausage, and shipwreck. Unfortunately, due to the weather and an event at the facility, the troop could not hold the annual volleyball tournament. But that didn’t ruin everything, as scouts opted to play basketball, spike ball, and cornhole instead.

The trip left everyone who went with action-packed memories of not only the river, but also the many other elements like the yard games and splashing. It was a great trip to wrap things up heading into the summer.
