As part of its April camping trip, Troop 542 headed to Hickory Run State Park in White Haven, PA, on Friday, April 25, 2025. The highlight of the trip was a day of biking. On Saturday morning, Scouts had breakfast with their patrols before gathering for the day’s schedule. Due to a forecasted thunderstorm in the afternoon, it was decided to postpone biking until Sunday. So, Troop 542 found other enjoyable ways to spend the day before the rain arrived.
Scouts took a short hike to the Hickory Run State Park Visitor Center, where they explored several exhibits, including one about how boulder fields are formed. Afterward, they went back to the campsite for a quick lunch and then headed out to explore more of the park’s surroundings. They hiked the Fireline Trail and were rewarded with a stunning view of the Lehigh River. Next, they visited the Lehigh Tannery Historic Site and learned about its historical significance.
Although it began to rain, the storm didn’t last long. The day ended with a relaxing dinner and an evening campfire filled with skits and singing, wrapping up a fun and memorable Saturday.
The next day, Troop 542 woke up ready to bike. Scouts packed up camp, ate breakfast, and participated in an interfaith service. Then, Scouts headed to the D & L Trail, where they rented bikes and began biking. For nearly two hours, Scouts witnessed the beauty of nature as they biked along the trail. Afterward, Scouts enjoyed a pizza lunch before heading home.
