Announcements Leading to October 6:
- BACKPACKING TRIP THIS WEEKEND, OCTOBER 4 & 5 - Our backpacking trip is now planned for this weekend, October 4 and 5. We'll be on the Appalachian trail from Eckville to Port Clinton over "The Pinnacle", the best view in Pennsylvania. We go about 10 miles Saturday and 6 Sunday with everything we need for the weekend on our backs. There’ll be two crews, novices and experienced hikers. what to bring We depart from the church at 7:30 Saturday morning and return Sunday.
- TROOP COMMITTEE MEETS THIS SUNDAY, OCTOBER 5 - The Troop Committee meets on Sunday, October 5, at 7:30 PM. Scribe, Quartermaster, Historian, and Librarian must give their reports to the SPL to be presented.
- RAVENS ARE SERVICE PATROL THIS WEEK - They should arrive at 7:00 to set things up, and plan to stay until at least 9:15 to put them back.
- JUNIOR LEADERS MEETING THIS MONDAY - There will be a Junior Leader's meeting at the church this Monday, October 6, at 7:00 before the regular meeting.
- FALL ECOLOGY PROJECT OCTOBER 11 - Our 2nd Wissahickon Restoration Volunteers(WRV) ecology work day will be on Saturday morning, October 11th. We will meet at the church at 9:00 am and meet the WRV project leader(s) shortly before 10 in Fairmount Park. We will be clearing out invasive plants and also planting native trees and other plants as well. Tools will be provided by WRV along with gloves. We’ll be back by about 12:30. You can earn 3 hours of community service from this event. If you are planning on coming, please tell our Troop Ecologist so we know how many scouts to plan for.
- TENT CAMPING TRIP WITH GOURMET COOKING COMPETITION THIS MONTH - Fall is great for camping, and we're off to Hawk Mountain Scout Reservation, on October 24 to 26. the lake, hiking trails, the nearby bird sanctuary, and large fields for games make Hawk Mountain a fun place to go. The highlight of the trip will be our gourmet cooking competition. Each patrol’s Saturday dinner will be judged on how well it makes use of outdoor cooking skills, how difficult it is to prepare, how well it turns out, and how well it is served. First year scouts will meet requirements for pitching and sleeping in tents, knife, ax and saw skills, and fire building. We’ll play outdoor games, have our campfire, and a night-time game. We'll leave at 7:00 PM Friday October 24. The $20 fee is due at our meeting October 13.
